Individual Psychology Sessions for Adults

Two people sit across from each other on chairs. One person has a thought bubble with scrambled thoughts above their head. The other has a thought bubble that contains the scrambled thoughts of the other in an organized format.

There are a lot of words that are often used interchangeably that might describe the individual work I do with clients - therapy, psychotherapy, and counselling to name a few. Whatever you choose to call it, I see adult clients in Alberta for individual psychology sessions either virtually or by walk & talk if the client is local to Fort Saskatchewan and chooses this option.

Gaining continued knowledge in the field is very important to me. I regularly engage in ongoing training, workshops, consultation, and reading. As a result, I am knowledgeable in numerous interventions, so that my clients can always be in the driver’s seat and my approach can be tailored to meet their needs and strengths. If it turns out that the services you need are outside of my areas of expertise or that we are not a good fit in working together, I'll be happy to provide you with a referral to some options that might better meet your needs.

Referrals

Beyond practical considerations like finances and availability, there are two main elements that are important in finding a psychologist who is a good fit for you of which you can read more about here

  1. Fit in Knowledge, Skill, and Expertise - This means I have the knowledge, skills, and expertise needed to help you reach your goals based on your presenting concerns.

  2. Personality fit - This means you feel that I see and understand you and that you feel a connection to me as another human being.

If at any point in your work with me, you do not feel that I meet the above criteria, I am always happy to provide a referral to someone who may be a better fit. These conversations are welcome and important in your growth. If at any point I observe that we may have reached a plateau or I think a different perspective/approach may benefit you, I will discuss the option of referral with you as well. You can also expect a referral if your current goal is to address any of the following as I do not have the necessary knowledge, skill, and expertise to support you appropriately.

  • Eating Disorders

  • OCD

  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Personality Disorders
  • Psychosis
  • Suicidal ideation/behaviour as the main focus of treatment

Fees & Appointments

My current rate is $235/50-minute session as recommended by the Psychologist's Association of Alberta. Every client is entitled to one free 15-minute phone consultation prior to booking an intake appointment if they would like. As I am registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists, if you have a benefits plan you should be able to claim your sessions under that, but it's important that you double check to be sure. I offer direct billing for plans that allow direct billing for psychology services - not all do so double check with your benefits provider(s) prior to our first session. Etransfer and credit card payments are also available.

I offer primarily evening appointments between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm on mostly weekdays with occasional Friday afternoon availability. I am exclusively offering virtual or walk and talk services for the foreseeable future. If you are uncertain about virtual therapy, you can read more here. If you are interested in walk and talk sessions, you can check that out here.

Unfortunately, psychology services are not publicly funded at this time which means seeing a psychologist can be expensive. I do offer a sliding scale for a select number of clients. Please feel free to inquire regarding the availability of sliding scale spots if paying the full fee would inhibit your ability to meet your basic needs. If paying for sessions at a private practice is not accessible to you at this time, click here for a list of community resources that may be of help.
